[ENTRANCEWAY] IC CONTACT

You've reached Peridot, leader of the Crystal Gems. I can't get to your call right now, but you can leave a message, and if I'm not too busy being a great savior and all-around wonderful gem, I'll get back to you.
[pause]
...Is that all I do? When does it- [BEEP]

What she produces is little more than a model kit for an earth vehicle.] ... That's ridiculous.
[She points accusingly at the model kit.] This is some sort of car. A jaguar is a big cat that lives in the jungle. If Wonderland's going to be so obsessed with Earth and Earth holidays, it ought to at least label things right.

[It's a bit underwhelming. Claude stretches up also hoping to peek into the opened drawer, though he can't really manage much better than hooking his paws over the edge. Lapis, as any good cat owner would, responds to this by putting a post-it note on his face.]
no subject
[Because surely it said something. She'd try to retrieve it from Claude, but he seems determined to have his revenge.]
no subject
[Lapis holds up a chunk of post-its and runs her thumb through it demonstratively, like the world's most disappointing flipbook.]
Yours is way better.
[Which is not a complaint, if anything the opposite; Lapis doesn't really care, so it's better if Peridot can get some kind of satisfaction out of it. If she'd gotten the better gift they'd probably just end up trading. At most, though, she's a little bemused by how strikingly pointless this looks right now. Unless you count Claude currently wrestling with a piece of paper on the floor as a point.]
no subject
An epiphany hits her.] Wait. I have an idea! [She barrels off into some part of the methodical chaos that is their barn home to find something.]
no subject
She adjusts herself to a more long-term position for sitting on the floor, and while Peridot's busy, takes the meantime moment to make a somewhat more sensible review of the little wooden chests -- testing the drawers properly, keeping an eye out for anything else strange. Which amounts to nothing new, as it turns out, and that never means much with Wonderland either way, but why not. Claude finishes subjugating his rogue post-it and hops on top of the chest for a better go at peering into the open drawer, possibly hoping to be find a new enemy.]

Ta-daaa! Now we can utilize this sticky paper to leave notes for each other and label things. It's so innovative!
no subject
You're so inventive. I don't know how humanity gets by without you.
[So Lapis gets back up after all in order to play along. Given that it took Peridot a moment to find one marker that they already had, she just goes to the closet; besides, she wants to make sure she can color-code properly. She comes back tapping an appropriately blue marker against a pad, glancing around the room thoughtfully.]
All right, if there's anything you want you'd better make sure to get there fast.

[It takes Peridot a moment to realize what she has just wrought and her eyes go wide as saucers behind her kamina glasses, and then, with haste, she scrambles to the corner of the room where she's been stacking paint cans for use in 'morp and possible projectile weapons.] The paints can are mine!
[She slaps a post-it with her name down, and begins to frantically look for anything else she wants to stake her claim to.]
no subject
Anyone other than Peridot probably could have seen this coming.]
I win.
no subject
That was.... smooth. [Heck yes, it was, but what ABOUT THIS. She slaps her own post-it note on Lapis's forehead, and it is not nearly as smooth, but SHE WILL NOT BE OUTDONE.] Ha! And now we're at an impasse.
no subject
Oh no, what an unforeseen twist. I hope you're ready to handle what you're getting into.
[Incidentally, Claude has finally followed along after his people to wind around their ankles hopefully. He doesn't care about this sappy nonsense, but he does like murdering post-it notes.]

[It's always nice when the kitten is happy. Bored now with this turn of events, Peridot tugs on the second drawer.] Maybe if we go to sleep right now, we can unlock the next box. We could fool this thing into believing a day has passed easily! It's not like time actually moves here.
no subject
[But she's pretty sure Peridot would lose her mind trying that. Also, the eagerness to reach tomorrow, itself, is likely to hinder sleep, an ancient holiday season dilemma known to children everywhere. It is a shame that they can't simply skip to the next scene like fictional characters, isn't it?]
no subject
Well, no. They can't. Inevitably, their plan to trick the magic box fails and they end up spending time doing whatever else they do before eventually either trying to sleep or getting absorbed in something that occupies all of their time.
The end result is when December 2nd rolls around, Peridot has managed to awkwardly straddle Lapis in the hammock with her face close to hers as she snores. This would be a very attractive way to wake up if Peridot were the least bit smooth and had plans to kiss her awake.
She is not. She's a dork. So instead of a smooch, Lapis gets an overzealous, "HEY LAPIS!"
dawn of the second day
Gemsus crust why.
She can't skip ahead to the part where she's already collected herself off the floor either, so she just lies there stunned for a moment, torn between feeling bad for kicking her girlfriend vs burying her face in her hands and questioning her life choices. Peridot is resilient, though, and alas so are Lapis's affections. She sighs and splits the difference: expressing concern in an exasperated, perhaps even accusatory tone.]
You alright?
no subject
And then she quickly sits up, like YEP. SHE'S FINE.] I'm fine. I, uh... May have miscalculated how deep asleep you were.
[No, Peridot. It's just REALLY WEIRD to get in someone's face like that when they sleep.]
no subject
[As if that wasn't dramatically obvious. Well, dumb shenanigans and Peridot falling over are both very common features of life in these quarters, and while Lapis does not like being startled, she at least doesn't have a pulse to set racing. Her nerves will settle quickly enough. She gathers herself off the floor, once again having a mind to help Peridot up if there's any chance Peridot doesn't beat her to it, and if she's a bit more tense that's also rather normal for her.]
Not that I'm not glad you're excited and all, but please don't ever do that again.
no subject
Sometimes she can be the smooth one. Sometimes.]
Sorry about that. I just got excited. Who knows what's gonna be in that box today?
no subject
Then I guess we'd better find out.
[Although that means they have to proceed on over there and pay attention to that instead of getting any more affectionate. Oh well, Lapis still likes watching Peridot enjoy things.]
