Wait. Are you serious? I've never actually seen a Mirror cross over before.

A blue hand reaches out of the mirror, at the standard Lapis sort of height, and gently pokes Peridot in the forehead before receding whence it came. This would be silly enough with anyone, but considering it's Peridot, whose forehead is her soul, it's either extra awkward or kinda forward, or both. Probably both.]

[Peridot gasps and recoils so hard she falls off the table she was perched on in order to get better access to the mirror, but not before she flails desperately.

A moment later, she's crawling back into position and scrawling:] I see your point...

I'd say you should see your face, but actually, I guess you can, huh?
It's a good thing people don't do stuff like that more often. None of you would ever go near a mirror again.

[But let's not think about all the things a Mirror could have reached out and done to a completely unprepared Real, had she been less trustworthy. They have a rapport going here, it's all in good fun.]

[Yeah... she doesn't wanna think about that.

Especially, when it would be more prudent to wonder about why she bothers clearing her throat before she scribbles again.]

So what do Mirrors do anyway? Do you have jobs and assignments, like on Homeworld?

Considering how many people cover up the mirrors, it seems like a really difficult monitoring process.

mostly. Tried to find things to fill up all this time I have. There's just a lot more people here than there were at the barn.

[Normally, M'Lapis would be inclined to brush that off, as she has been doing all along. Having someone else's memories in your head isn't actually that much like remembering things you've experienced yourself, she thinks; if she had really been there, things would have gone very, very differently. It's more like remembering something seen on TV, which is an analogy Peridot would certainly understand.

But right now, for some reason, she feels like playing things the wrong way entirely.]

Well... yeah. I know they're not actually mine, but I remember everything.

[Either way, it implies something about the Queen of Hearts that she's never thought about. She's wondered who controls the system that makes up Wonderland- if the Queens are pawns or programmers, but no other queen has exhibited such a command of where the Reals come from as to use that information to shape the Mirrors.]

So that means the Queen of Hearts knows everything?

...actually, M'Lapis hadn't thought of that. She knows exactly who and what she is, and she tends not to question it. Huh.]

[Well. Peridot seems to have a basic misapprehension here. Lapis doesn't really want to shut her down too bluntly, which would probably bring down the mood, but she also doesn't want to humor this too far, or say anything too incriminating. Plus, this is already way less fun than talking about themselves.]

The company leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm not dumb enough to get into any serious trouble.
Such as, for instance, listening to Reals who try asking me to commit treason. Just as an example.

That thought hadn't actually occurred to me until this moment...

[Mostly because Mirror Lapis just doesn't seem like the type to steal oceans.

And a little bit that she wanted to believe Mirrors were just less powerful in general. The look on her face suggests it might actually be more than a little bit.]
